Before the Crowds

This is a picture of Waikiki beach from a vacation to Hawaii I took in November of 1991.  In the background you can see Diamond Head.  I tried to take this picture the day before but the crowds were insane and I really wanted a picture of the beach, not the crowd.  I was told the secret was to take the picture just after sunrise before the masses storm the beach.

As you can see from the picture I wasn't the only one who appreciated the concept of the beach sans people.  If you've never done so, I highly recommend a Hawaiian vacation, but be sure to spend most of your time away from Oahu, as it's the other islands where the real beauty is to be found. Hawaii has a population of about 1.2 million, of that 1.2 million over 800K live on Oahu, so the other islands are still very rural and beautiful.
